Misty Dawn Clanton Roberts, 42, was booked into Beauregard Parish Detention Center on charges of third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, Louisiana State Police (LSP) said in a news release on Thursday.
Her arrest came less than a week after she abruptly resigned as the mayor of DeRidder, a city of about 10,000 people sp,e 50 miles north of Lake Charles.
Roberts, 42, was booked into custody at 10:13 a.m. and released about an hour later on a $75,000 bond, according to the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office jail roster.
Investigators said they interviewed the alleged victim as well as one other child. Both confirmed Roberts "had sexual intercourse with one juvenile victim while employed as mayor", the state police statement said.
