There is worse news being documented by Public Advocate elsewhere:
A former Disney executive was convicted Tuesday of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl.
Michael Laney, 73, was convicted of four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree after a six-day trial. Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Souede acquitted Laney of three counts of first-degree rape and three counts of first-degree sex abuse. He is scheduled to be sentenced June 14.
According to court documents, Laney began abusing the victim in 2009, when she was about 7 years old, and there were multiple incidents of abuse spanning about two years. The child had initially reported the abuse in 2017 in Washington, where she lived at the time.
Another alleged victim also reported that Laney had sexually abused her in 2007 when she lived in Portland, but the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said the court could not find sufficient evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.
