VA House & Senate Adopt Marriage Amendments
Public Advocate President is praising members of the Virginia General Assembly for adopting an amendment to the Commonwealth's Constitution that would limit marriage to heterosexual couples. Public Advocate is particularly happy with the language adopted by the House of Delegates, which resembles the Marshall language endorsed by Public Advocate.
The legislation must now go through a conference committee where Public Advocate will be lobbying members to support the house language. Once a conference report is presented and adopted, the amendment must be supported by next year's general assembly before it can be submitted to the voters in November of 2007.
"The courage of these lawmakers must be applauded," said Eugene Delgaudio, President of Public Advocate. "These leaders are willing to stand up against political correctness and the radical homosexual lobby and stand up for Virginia families."
