Donald Trump pursued the politics of disaster on Monday by traveling to storm-hit Georgia to survey damage from Hurricane Helene, although he held off on direct criticism of President Joe Biden and his 2024 White House rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
"We're not talking about politics now," Trump told reporters near a gutted store in Valdosta, Ga.
At one point, Trump did say that "we do need some help from the federal government." He also said that Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp - a Republican who did not appear at the event - was trying to reach Biden about relief, but had not been able to reach the president.
Former President Donald Trump is on the ground in Georgia today meeting with communities impacted by Hurricane Helene and handing out supplies to those in need.
"We came down with truckloads of different items, from oil to water. We're here today to stand with complete solidarity with the people of Georgia and all those suffering in the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Helene," Trump told the press.
