Public Advocate Signs Emergency Letter to President Trump to Fill Prescription for Steve Stockman
Eugene Delgaudio, president of Public Advocate has joined a long list of conservative leaders that have joined in an emergency call to President Donald Trump to order needed medical prescriptions for treating COVID 19 to former Congressman Steve Stockman who is in a Texas federal prison.
The petition reads:
EMERGENCY PETITION TO PRESIDENT TRUMP
FOR EXECUTIVE ORDER TO FILL EXISTING DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION FOR HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AND OTHER MEDICINE, PRIVATE HOSPITAL CARE, THEN TRANSFER TO HOME DETENTION FOR FORMER CONGRESSMAN STEVE STOCKMAN
We the undersigned petition you, President Trump, for your direct intervention to direct the Beaumont, Texas federal prison to fill an existing prescription for Hydroxychloroquine and other medicine for former Congressman Steve Stockman, get him private hospital treatment, then have him immediately transferred from prison to home confinement.

Steve is in the federal prison in Beaumont, Texas, and has been kept from being transferred to home confinement by someone "very high up," he has been told by prison officials.
This past week, Steve was diagnosed as being infected with COVID-19. After a local television news channel reported his infection Friday evening, he was sent to a doctor, but his prescription for Hydroxychloroquine and other medicine has not been filled.
In prison, Steve has previously been denied adequate medical treatment for his diabetes, and has been denied access to zinc for other existing medical conditions.
Steve is the only over-60 diabetic prisoner remaining at the Beaumont federal prison facility, which also has previously reported the highest per capita COVID-19 infection rate of any prison in the country.
Steve's age (63), multiple co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, asthma, and more), and the nonviolent, non-sexual nature of his conviction clearly make him eligible for transfer to home detention.

Steve has filed and even re-filed the papers for compassionate transfer to home confinement for at-risk prisoners, including a petition for "Compassionate Release" he filed with Warden F. J. Garrido on April 4. Steve was told on April 23 he'd be placed in pre-release quarantine, but was then turned away at the door by prison staff on April 24.
Soon after, and one more time since then, Steve was told by prison officials he will not be leaving on orders from very high up.
Steve's July 13 Request for Administrative Remedy was denied on July 17 by Warden F. J. Garrido, incorrectly stating Steve must serve 50 percent of his time to be eligible, since that is only a factor that may be considered.
Friends of Steve Stockman have already pledged to cover the costs of his prescription medicine and hospital care if the Beaumont prison has decided his immediate treatment is a budgetary problem.
That this type of abusive and neglectful treatment by the Bureau of Prisons is happening to a former Member of the United States Congress, we can only imagine what is happening to minorities, the poor, and people who have no voice and lack the contacts that Steve Stockman has.
